The Job

Role Overview

We are a Macau-based casino gaming technology company providing technology solutions to international casino operators and gaming businesses worldwide.

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to develop, maintain and enhance backend services supporting a real-time gaming platform. The role will primarily focus on Node.js-based backend applications, REST APIs, data services and integrations, with exposure to Go-based game-server components and real-time communication.

Go is preferred but is not expected to be the candidate's primary language. A strong Node.js engineer with practical Go exposure, or the ability to work confidently in Go, should be considered suitable.

The role involves working in an international environment, with English used regularly for day-to-day communication and collaboration.

Candidate Profile

Able to understand inherited systems and unfamiliar code quickly.

Comfortable taking ownership of complex integration and production issues.

Writes maintainable, secure and testable code.

Communicates clearly and collaborates effectively with frontend and infrastructure engineers.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop and maintain backend services and RESTful APIs used by frontend, partner and gaming applications.

Develop and support Node.js and Express.js services and contribute to Go-based game-server components where required.

Maintain player authentication, account, wallet, balance, deposit/withdrawal and transaction-related functionality.

Support real-time communication using WebSocket and/or Socket.IO, including connection handling, heartbeats and reconnection behaviour.

Work with MongoDB, MySQL and Redis for application data, transaction processing, caching and session/token storage.

Support game-session reporting, jackpot, monitoring, synchronisation and other game-related backend services.

Integrate backend applications with third-party partner systems and local/on-premises services.

Implement secure API access using appropriate authentication, authorisation and request-signing mechanisms.

Improve application performance, reliability, logging, health checks and diagnostics.

Troubleshoot production issues across application, database and network-integration layers.

Develop and maintain Docker-based services and contribute to CI/CD and deployment practices.

Participate in code reviews, technical discussions and continuous improvement of automated testing and software quality.

Your Skills and Experience

Required Skills

5+ years of commercial backend-development experience.

Strong commercial experience with Node.js and JavaScript and/or TypeScript.

Strong experience designing and developing RESTful APIs using Express.js or a similar backend framework.

Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, including data modelling, indexing and query optimisation.

Good understanding of asynchronous programming and service-to-service integration.

Experience using Git and modern source-control workflows.

Experience using Docker for local development, build or deployment.

Strong debugging, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills

Go / Golang development, particularly long-running services, concurrency or network applications.

WebSocket, Socket.IO or other real-time/event-driven communication technologies.

MongoDB, MySQL and Redis experience.

JWT authentication, API keys, HMAC request signing and secure secrets handling.

Linux administration and CI/CD pipelines.

Cloud platforms such as AWS or Alibaba Cloud.

Gaming, wagering, payments, wallet/transaction processing or other regulated systems.

Relevant Experience

Experience maintaining or extending an existing production codebase with multiple interacting

services.

Experience integrating external APIs and troubleshooting distributed-system issues.

Experience supporting applications where reliability, transaction integrity and real-time behaviour are important.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent practical industry experience.
